Once upon a time, in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.
The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest, and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort.
He further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms.
The offer increased to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50 ! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. 'Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each.'
The villagers rounded up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!
Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works.

"Let me try to explain with whatever little Financial Services knowledge I have from the experience with GE Money and GE Commercial Finance.
In a nutshell, when an investment bank syndicates a loan to the big companies, they never keep these loans in their books, they will package it and then sell it (just like Loan Securitization that GE does)…normally these are collateralized against an Asset which predominantly have been mortgages….when the SubPrime crisis exploded, people could not afford to repay their mortgages, the values of these Asset-backed securitized loans plummeted and when you have to do a Mark-To Market valuation every quarter (remember Wall St companies need to report every quarter) that's when the impact is felt, huge write offs are made and the banks make big losses.
The losses will decrease their EPS ( earning per share) which eventually will affect their share price (the lower the EPS, the lower is the PE ratio)…but when the share price tumbles down, the equity of the bank shrinks. But the banks need to have a certain amount of equity (its Called Tier 1, Tier 2 requirements by Basel Regulations) and that's why they go around asking for Capital Injection from Private Equities / Sovereign Wealth Funds (since they are normally the richest ones)…..So Temasek invested in Merril Lynch, Middle East Funds pumped money to Citigroup, Singapore Government Inc invested in UBS etc. When the credit crunch happened, the liquidity in the market has been so low that Private Equities and Pension Funds are also dried up.
When these banks cannot find someone and the prices keep falling, this is when they refer to as the banks being in DISTRESSED situation and that's what happened to Lehman who eventually had to declare Chapter 11 (i..e. under protection until they can recover). GE too is affected because 50% of our Income (about US$8 Billion) comes from GE Commercial Finance / GE Money.
Btw how does this affect the consumers? When there is a liquidity crunch in the market, it is more difficult for companies to raise Bonds or Commercial Papers or for Banks to lend amongst each other. This will result in the Cost of Fundings for these banks to go up which will eventually be passed on to the consumers which will then trigger an inflation.
Setakat ini je lah fahaman hamba….since the US Fed has announced a Bail Out package yesterday, the Dow Jones has been rallying like crazy (market just opened 30 minutes ago) and GE stock price is up 10%, Goldman up 24%, Citi up 25%.
Obviously only time will tell when this whole craziness will end."

Untuk pertama kali, Crown nak buat iklan kat majalah. Itupun setelah dapat penajaan untuk membuat iklan sebesar saiz A4 di Majalah Usahawan. Aku sendiri pun first time nak buat design untuk ruang majalah.
Untuk iklan produk seperti Crown ni, aku kena fikirkan banyak aspek supaya layout dan imej-imej di dalam iklan Crown ni dapat menarik minat si pembaca majalah untuk menatap lama iklan ni dan seterusnya mendapat mesej dan ingatan kekal dari iklan ini.
1) Brand Introduction and Awareness
Untuk introduction aku nak letak logo Crown dengan bagaknya di bahagian khusus iaitu di sebelah kanan bawah. Biarkan ia outstanding sorang di situ. Untuk awareness lak, pembaca mesti nak tau apa itu Crown Lubricants kan. So aku letak imej produk Crown di sebelah kiri bawah supaya boleh nampak seimbang dan releven dengan logo brand di sebelah kanan.
2) Application
80% daripada ruang iklan ni, aku peruntukkan untuk tunjukkan aplikasi produk Crown itu sendiri. Mula-mula, aku letak satu imej illustrasi bahagian dalam enjin (piston, engine cylinder, valves) kat bahagian tengah iklan. Kemudian, aku susun imej-imej sports car (aston martin), turbo-diesel heavy truck (scania), heavy-duty excavator (caterpillar) dan superbike (kawasaki) di sekeliling imej enjin tu. Selain itu, aku letak ayat-ayat power mengenai aplikasi Crown yang menunjukkan kepenggunaan dan kehebatan hasil aplikasi daripada produk Crown.
Kesimpulannya, imej enjin adalah menunjukkan aplikasi terus oleh produk dan seterusnya ditunjukkan kesinambungan tahap kualiti untuk kegunaan jenis mesin dan jenama kenderaan yang hebat seterusnya dijelaskan lagi dengan ayat-ayat power.
3) Approval and Accreditation
Aku juga letak logo-logo pengeluar utama kereta keluaran tempatan dan luar negara bagi menunjukkan produk Crown ini compatible dan sememangnya boleh disyorkan untuk kebanyakkan (semua) enjin-enjin pengeluar kereta tersebut. Kemudian diletakkan lagi logo pensijilan API dan logo-logo lain.
THE DESIGN & TUTORIAL (clipping mask, feather and transparency mode)
The background
- Sepertimana warna korporat jenama Crown ni, latarbelakang iklan ini ialah berwarnakan kuning minyak dan ia juga mempunyai imej-mej super machines yang tampak terserap ke dalam warna tersebut.
- Untuk membuat 'blending effect', imej tersebut terlebih dahulu dikenakan dengan teknik 'clipping mask' di dalam satu bentuk 'elipse' (eclipse).
- Kemudian, imej tadi dikenakan pula dengan 'feather effect' supaya warna background boleh nampak macam menyerap (blend) dari sisi (edge) ke dalam imej.
- Setelah itu, imej tadi diset 'transparency' pada 40% dengan mode 'multiply' supaya imej tersebut nampak kabur dan terserap (blend) di dalam warna background iklan.
The Focus Image
- Untuk imej enjin tu, aku download dari website Scania. Enjin ni adalah enjin turbo-diesel V8 Scania.
- Seperti mana editting pada background di atas, kita kenakan teknik 'clipping mask' dan 'feather effect' dan cuma aku tak kenakan 'transparency mode' saja kerana nak nampakkan warna ilustrator enjin tu tampak terang dan outstanding.

Sempena birthday aku yang ke-30, biniku yang tersayang, Cik Puan Alina telah membelanja aku santapan buffet dinner kat Shogun Restaurant. Memang dah lama pun aku teringin nak makan kat Restoren Jepun-Korea ni. Before this kalau aku lalu depan restaurant ni, memang aku akan penuh kehairanan, apahei penuh sangat restoren nih. Sedap bebenor makannye ye?
Awal petang tu, saje je lalu nak tanya berapa harga buffet, pastu manager melayu tu ajak masuk dalam tengok buffet line shogun ni. Memang terliur gak tengok betapa banyaknya food diaorang served. Then, waiter tu cakap semua food Halal & dia suruh buat booking pasal nanti dinner susah nak dapat seat.
Around 7pm, kami pun datang balik ke Shogun Restaurant ni. Bila nak masuk kat entrance tu, waiters memang dah berkumpul ramai-ramai nak greet kami; 'Welcome' dalam japanese (aku tak ingat apa diaorang sebut, tapi macam yang diaorang selalu jerit kat Sushi King tu la).
Bila dah dapat seat, aku start jalan la tengok buffet island. Ada 5 buffet island: sushi, japanese & korean food, tempura, tepanyaki & BBQ, japanese & korean food and dessert. Memang banyak gila makanan. Food decoration pun cantik dan buat aku tak sabor je nak ngap.

Pastu, aku ambik lagi sushi. Masa ni dah start muak & kenyang. Main course tak start makan lagi ni. Salah strategi lak.
Third plate ni memang best (tapi time ni aku dah start mengah). Ada ayam boxing dengan lemon chicken...
Oyster ni memang restoren bagi sorang seketul je. Tak sedap sangat, maybe diaorang tak pandai buat kut.
Pinggan berisi Tempura ni aku kongsi dengan bini aku..
Pastu ada lagi berpinggan-pinggan lagi yang aku tak dapat ambik gambornya pasal aku dah malas. Lauk yang paling best ialah lamb chop, ada banyak jenis cooking untuk lamb ni; teriyaki, grill, lamb shank etc. Yang lain macam ayam, ikan, daging, ketam, udang pun ada banyak style cooking.
Banyak gak aku tak sempat nak rasa pasal dah kenyang sangat.
Dessert pun best, espcially the fruit cocktail. Ice cream pun ada, banyak flovour. Memang tak kedekut.
Drinks lak tak limit dengan ice-water je macam typical hotel, diaorang offer fruit juices (cordial actually), japanese tea, hot coffee/tea drinks. Semua tu bottomless.
Overall : Totally worth the money spent. Kalau korang nak makan buffet, jangan makan kat hotel pasal shogun lagi offer banyak food dan berbaloi!!
Harga Buffet per head : RM52++ (10% service charge +5% sales tax)
Bini aku bergurau dengan mizan (bergurau tak kena tempat).

Aku memang perlukan imej crest koleq untuk beberapa design yang aku tengah fikir nak buat in future. So, aku dah pi surf banyak website koleq, mcoba, oldboys dan OB-batch blogs untuk cari imej crest koleq. Untuk mendapatkan pelbagai imej, foto dan logo pasal koleq, sila lawati http://offside.mcoba.org/image.
Crest koleq yang dalam format jpeg di atas ni tak berapa sharp untuk dijadikan bahan printing atau nak buat design dalam Adobe Illustrator. Adalah terbaik untuk koleq crest ni dijadikan dalam format vector, so aku kena buat tracing guna Adobe Illustrator.
tutorial : tracing
Cara nak buat tracing ni kita boleh gambarkan macam kita tekap gambar guna kertas tekap / tracing. Melalui kertas tracing yang agak transparent tu, kita boleh melukis dengan meniru bentuk gambar yang kita tekap tu. So, untuk crest ni, aku copy & paste pada Layer 1 dan 'Lock' layer tu supaya imej dalam layer tu tak kena usik bila kita buat tracing.
Kemudian, create 'new layer' : Layer 2 dan posisikan di atas Layer 1 (Layer 2 ni akan jadi kertas tekap). Untuk kerja tracing ni, kita boleh gunakan 'pen tool' (rujuk gambar di atas). Sebenarnya kerja tracing ni senang saje, cuma click pada setiap point imej dan kalau line tu kena buat curve, masa click untuk second point tu, kita kena terus hold left-click tu sambil gerakkan mouse dan padankan curve dengan sebaik mungkin.
Korang boleh set line color (stroke color) dulu sebelum atau selepas plot points atau line tu korang buat. Bila dah lengkap satu imej, then baru la set color imej (fill color).
Buat tracing ni memang syok, lebih2 lagi bila dah siap. Memang puas hati kalau dah dapat tengok hasilnya dalam vector. Cuma yang tak syok tu ialah tracing ni memang makan masa dan aku selalu tension kalau curve tu tak berapa menjadi. Make sure mouse korang senang nak handle.
Perhatikan bezanya imej dalam format bitmap dan format vector (tracing & in color).
Part yang paling susah nak buat crest koleq ialah part kepala rimau ni. Memang banyak point nak plot dan imej asal pulak tak berapa sharp nak buat tekap. Itulah cabarannya.

I made this poster for Sukantara2008 blog : Futsaltera's Results.
Futsaltera was a koleq94's futsal interhouse match held at Futsal Sport Center, PJ on 26th August. Ahmad house got the first place (highest points from their winning matches & attendance) and as we expected, Sulaiman house got the last place. We lost in all our games except one match got draw.
